Helena teve a desventura de nascer numa família desestruturada. Pai analfabeto e alcoólatra. Sua mãe, Maria, tinha sido uma mulher bonita antes de se entregar às drogas e más companhias. Transformou-se numa caricatura dela mesma. Todos a chamavam de “A LOUCA”! Suas atitudes confirmavam esse triste apelido! Helena esteve muitas vezes morando com sua avó paterna, uma senhorinha simples, que fez o que pode pela menina. Sua avó adoeceu e Helena teve que voltar para a casa da mãe, que não se importava nem um pouco com ela. Quando Maria deu à luz à Helena, há nove anos , ela era uma pessoa melhor! Ficou feliz em ver aquele bebê lindo e saudável saindo de seu ventre! Loirinha de olhos verdes, pele rosada, parecia uma boneca de porcelana. Maria já tinha um outro filho, Felipe, dois anos mais velho que Helena. Felipe foi adotado por uma família rica, indo morar em outro país. Helena nem chegou a conhecer esse irmão. Assim que ela nasceu aconteceu essa adoção. A história de Helena chegou como uma denúncia anônima de maus tratos e negligência. Como assistente social do estado, tive a missão de visitar a “família de Helena”! Naquela tarde de primavera, ensolarada, quando cheguei na rua de sua casa, estacionei o carro na esquina e fui caminhando, procurando o endereço de Helena. Avistei umas meninas brincando, num canto de uma das calçadas daquele lugar pobre. Curiosa, me aproximei. Tentei avaliar a situação. O que vi cortou o coração! Quatro meninas brincavam animadamente, e, num cantinho do muro, uma outra menina, isolada, sozinha, aguardava ser chamada para brincar também! Seus olhinhos brilhavam de vontade. Percebi a rejeição dessas meninas em relação à linda loirinha rejeitada, sedenta de desejo de participar da brincadeira. Num momento, ouvi elas falarem entre si, que eram proibidas de brincar com a filha da louca. Me aproximei da loirinha linda, perguntei o seu nome e, num sorriso que nunca havia visto mais lindo, me disse chamar-se “HELENA”. Sentei-me ao seu lado e fui puxando conversa, tentando distrair o seu triste olhar. Perguntei sobre ela, ficamos rapidamente amigas. Até cantamos juntas a mesma canção que as outras meninas estavam cantando. Foi incrível como Helena ficou feliz! Depois de algum tempo, olhei no relógio e percebi que ainda não tinha feito a visita de inspeção de que me tinham incumbido. Fui me levantando pra me despedir. Helena pegou firme em minha mão e disse que queria ir comigo. Compreendi, naquele momento, o quanto essa criança estava carente de amor e cuidado! Minha maior surpresa se deu quando eu quis leva- la para sua casa e constatei que era o mesmo endereço em que eu tinha que fazer a visita de avaliação. Não deu outra! Me apaixonei por HELENA. Hoje ela é a minha filha amada. Cantamos juntas no jardim de nossa casa, embaixo da laranjeira! Até pardais tem vindo cantar com a gente!
